Optimizing your social media pages will help your audience better understand what you do, and it will help your page get found more easily! Learn to optimize your Facebook Page:

Page Name

  • Does your page name make sense?
  • Is the page name so long that it gets cut off?
  • Does it tell people what kind of content they can expect from the page?
  • Are there other pages with the same name?

About Section

  • Does your description include what services you offer?
  • Does it describe the kind of content people can find on your page?
  • Does it include your service area?
  • In certain cases, does it include the name of the person the page is representing?
  • Is the description clear and concise?
  • Are you using keywords that folks might use to find your page in a search?

Profile Picture

We suggest using a profile picture with our logo or other appropriate image for your profile picture. There are many to choose from available in our social media assets.

Cover Photo

  • Does your cover photo depict what your page is about?
  • Does it have the UADA and/or other appropriate logo on it?
  • Are the dimensions of your cover photo correct? (approx. 1200x630)
    • Note: It is challenging to get the cover photo to line up correctly, as the size and obstructions change from device to device, so don't stress too much if you can't get this to look correct. The most important thing to pay attention to is the sizing and whether it looks okay on mobile devices.
  • Tip: You can use your cover photo to advertise upcoming events and other important and/or timely info.

Location

  • Be sure to add your office's location to your page so your people know where your office is located and who you serve.
  • Include your Service Area in the About section. This will help Facebook show your posts to the most appropriate audience.
    • Include the names of the cities you work with.

Website

  • Are you using the most appropriate webpage for your goals?
  • Does the link work?
  • Is there a short link for the page you are trying to link to? Short links are less bulky and easier to read.

Welcome Post

Making a post welcoming newcomers to your page will help to educate the people who have either recently learned about your page, or will encourage people who aren't following you to actually follow you.

You can then pin this post to the top of your feed to let anyone new know what you do, who you are, who you serve, and what kind of content they can find on your page.

Do a Search for Your Page

If you search for your page on Google or another popular search engine and cannot find it, this will tell you a lot about the optimization of your page.

Search for your location and a keyword your audience might use to find your page (such as "Malvern, AR gardening") to see if your page shows up. If it does, great!

If it doesn't, make sure to add keywords to your page or page name, if relevant, and try again. Keep trying this until you can find your Facebook page on a search engine. This is known as search engine optimization, and this can work wonders for your page's visability on the Internet.

Note that each time you do this, it may take a couple days for the search engine to update, so if you search for your page right after you update it, it may still not be able to find your page.

Be sure when you do this, that you are not just searching for your page's name or jargon that is already on your page. The key here is making sure you are using words that people would actually search for to find you.

Be sure as you add keywords to your page that what you are writing in your description and other places on your page, that you are still making sense, and that you are not simply adding keywords for the sake of adding keywords. This is what is referred to as "keyword stuffing," and it is not best practice when writing on the web.
